Exploring the future of religion: Keith Woods interviews a Jewish scholar
A few days ago, Keith Woods spent three hours interviewing a Jewish scholar. For those unfamiliar with Keith Woods, he is an Irish nationalist who operates in the same sphere as the Academic Agent, and has interviewed other people I follow like the ever profound Thomas777. The Jewish scholar goes online by the name of Doovid and apparently sees himself as the Jewish emissary to the online right. That being said, I feel this interview is a worthwhile watch, despite its length. Doovid is an anti-Zionist, and his insights on the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict are valuable. For me, however, I find that his views on religious Judaism are of central importance. Essentially, he affirms most of my beliefs on the Jewish religion and its people, but as a Jew himself, his views on these things are more positive than my own. In this postmodern era, titles and labels are essentially meaningless. If I use a term like antisemitism, I am not referring to someone who has an impotent hatred against Jews because of some personal failing they have and wish to scapegoat on others. I would use the term antisemitism in the same way I would use anticommunist, as the opposition to an ideology or belief system. This was how Corneliu Codreanu used the term and is why he was proud to call himself as such. His movement in part was meant to counter semitism, which was harming his people at the time in which he lived. What Doovid does is present Judaism in what I would argue is an accurate manner. As a Jew, he affirms what his religion and culture demand, but as a non-Jew and Christian, I can say there exists an undeniable tension between the Jewish and the Christian/gentile weltanschauung. Doovid even admits as such, saying for example that as a Jew, it is in his best interest to promote diversity and mass immigration into the United States, even though he knows that such policies are detrimental to old stock Americans. So Doovid is able to acknowledge that the interests of Jews and gentiles can and often are mutually exclusive. I applaud the honesty of his admission, and such an admission can provide the foundation upon which Jewish and Christian dialogue and conflict resolution can occur. For almost seventy years, there has been a popular denial of the innate tension between Jewish and Christian cultures. There has even been an attempt to graft the Jewish civilization with the Christian West in the form of a supposed Judeo-Christianity. The project of Judeo-Christianity is an interesting subject of study, as its origins are largely a Protestant attempt to harmonize the post-Talmudic Jewish interpretation of the Old Testament with the New Testament, and an attempt to subordinate the New Testament to the Old so that the Jews become the spiritual forefathers and a type of head over Christianity. Judeo-Christianity also betrays a certain need for Christians to retain tradition and even liturgy, but instead of pursuing authentic Christianity, which already retains that which was good from the Hebrew tribes, these Evangelical or non-denominational Christians attempt to appropriate the traditions of the post-Christ Pharisees.
Doovid affirms that Judaism and Christianity are distinct religions. His sect of Judaism believes in a final judgment of souls, but also in what he describes as a transmigration of souls. A cursory internet search reveals that this belief is called Gilgulei HaNeshamot (גלגול הנשמות) and includes the belief in cyclic history, which involves certain figures reincarnating and the repetition of world events so that time continues to flow. This includes messiahs, as there have been multiple post-Christ claimants to the mantle of messiah, including rabbis whose teachings are still practised and venerated to this day. This view is completely alien to Christianity. Now some may argue that just because Doovid’s sect holds to this belief, it does not mean that it is a universal view. Defining who is and who is not a Jew is difficult. Doovid acknowledges the blood component of Jewishness, but to him a “full Jew” is someone who is immersed in the Jewish life. I think this is a fair definition and can likewise be applied to Christians. Although there is not a blood component to Christianity, we can still acknowledge that to be Christian is to live the life of a Christian and that claiming membership to a particular religion or culture is meaningless. However, because there is a blood component to Judaism, non-practising Jews do not lose their Jewishness and become gentiles. This is also why when Woods inquires as to why Jews do not seek the conversion of gentiles, Doovid responds negatively. Doovid affirms that it is possible for a gentile to become a Jew. This process involves living the Jewish life for a year. Alas, Doovid does not wish to spread his religion because gentiles as gentiles serve a function for them, and to their god. Jews are supposed to be the priestly and spiritual leaders of the world, whereas the goyim (and this is the term Doovid perpetually employs in reference to non-Jews) are gifted in science and military might so that they can serve and protect the priestly caste. So, although the goyim do serve a function for the Jewish god and his people, true spiritual enlightenment and salvation is reserved exclusively for Jews. Now, there are those on the right who claim that Jews essentially wish to enslave gentile nations to themselves. This does not seem to be the desire of Doovid’s sect, but what he describes is essentially no better, if not for the reason that it denies salvation to the gentile. It deliberately prevents the gentile from knowing God and is always relegated to a lesser and subservient actor. Furthermore, even though Doovid’s sect may be more magnanimous to the gentile, I can easily see how some rabbis might be able to interpret those doctrines as a form of slavery and utter submission. We even see this with the existence of the shabbos goy (גוי של שבת) which is a gentile used by practising Jewish families to perform all the labours they are forbidden from doing on the Shabbat.
With Jews as the spiritual leaders of the world, this for Doovid explains why Jews form and disproportionately lead the major political movements of our time. From Communism, to Feminism, to gay rights, Doovid says that a Jew without faith still retains the drive to be the spiritual and moral leader of the world, and if secular they will espouse the faiths of secular politics and promote a secular form of political salvation. Unfortunately for both Jews and gentiles, secular Jewish behaviour is highly detrimental. As their god’s spiritual elect, their height is inverted when they fall, which is why secular Jews promote evils which most religious Jews utterly abhor, like gay and trans stuff. He says it’s not too different from when a Catholic becomes secular, which I can attest to in some degree with the sad example of Taylor Momsen. However, because Jews are uniquely a priestly people, when they fall they become priests for evil, which is why they are so able to spread the evils they should be opposing. Now of course I believe that Judaism is a false religion and is as (if not more) detrimental as the philosophies and actions of secular Jews, but even in religious Judaism, Jews fail to uphold the moral order. Judaism is essentially a religion of finding loopholes in the Old Testament Covenant. The Talmud is essentially a work of case law featuring the prior judgments and interpretations of past rabbis. For example, as I mentioned before we have shabbos goy, which exists to circumvent God’s demand for rest on the Saturday. Instead of fasting from labour or doing without for a single day, the Jews cheat by having a gentile work for them. This labour can include things as mundane as turning off a light switch. So, on one hand the Jews are extreme in how they interpret the law, but then they circumvent it. Another example is the Kapparot ritual (כפרות), which involves the imputing of one’s sins onto a chicken and then killing it to be rendered sinless. Lastly, Doovid even states that some rabbis will permit Jewish men to consume pornography if they find their wives unattractive. Of course, Doovid does not believe this allowance is good, but I think it demonstrates the legalistic mindset of religious Jews.
Doovid is an opponent to Christ. He will not affirm that Jesus Christ is denounced and blasphemed in the Talmud. There are figures named Jesus who the Talmud denounces, but Doovid claims that this is not Christ but some other figure with the same name. This goes against modern scholastic views on the Talmud, and against the teachings of the rabbis, but even so he affirms that Christ was a false prophet who was killed for violating the Jewish law. Doovid even entertains the theory that Jesus Christ may not have actually existed. But from the Jewish perspective, Doovid does not really care what gentiles believe and is more concerned with fulfilling the Talmudic conception of the spiritual and secular order.
The spiritual and secular order in Judaism is to be fulfilled by the Jewish messiah. This is why Doovid opposes the existence of the state of Israel. To his sect, the creation of a Jewish homeland is supposed to be achieved by their messiah. Israel as it exists today is a state founded by atheist nationalists and is antithetical to what a Jewish state should supposedly be. The Jews have been cursed and were forbidden by God from returning to the Holy Land, and thus the modern-day Israel is an affront to God which will see the Jewish people suffer and be punished. So, for Doovid, Jews are meant to remain in the diaspora and spread their morality and spirituality throughout the nations in preparation for the coming of their messiah and the establishment of a true Jewish state. The purpose of the Jews and their separation from the nations is to eventually conform the world to the spiritual order ordained by their theology. The goyim are to learn from the nobility and otherworldly quality of the Jews, or alternatively learn from them in their failings when they are punished by God. The world is to be Judaized either by their goodness or in their punishment, which is why Jews often find themselves persecuted. It is refreshing to have a Jew put aside the claims of Jewish victimhood and instead acknowledge the failings of his people and the inevitable reaction by the gentile nations. But again, as a Christian the Jewish people are neither my priests nor masters, so although I sympathetic to the Jewish plight to some degree, their religion is diametrically opposed and hostile to mine.
I see little of value in Judaism or being offered by secular Jewish people. I look at, say, high Islamic culture or that of the Hindus, and I appreciate some of the things those peoples have accomplished in regards to philosophy, architecture etc. I can even admit some things I admire in Judaism as well. I find Judaism a fascinating subject because it is interesting to see where they took and ultimately perverted the religion that the Hebrew people one held. But as a Christian, Islam, Hinduism, and Judaism offer me ultimately nothing. The Jewish people do have something to offer, but when shackled to the Talmud or atheism they are the enemies of Christ and Christian civilization. I say they have something to offer because when Jews have converted to Christianity in the past, they make made innumerable contributions to the Church. Of course we have the examples of the Apostles and the Saints, but even in our modern era we see ethnic Jews greatly contribute to the promotion of Orthodox Christianity, exemplified by Michael Witcoff and Craig Truglia. So, as I have said earlier, Keith’s interview with Doovid was very insightful and I think it lays the groundwork for future conversations. I would like the Jews to either be converted or to abandon their attempt at transforming my society in accordance to their theology (be it religious or secular). Either Jews must accept that Christians are unwilling to submit to their weltanschauung and relent, or else they need to emigrate, [and of course, I make the same demand of the Muslims, Hindus and Chinese living in the West]. I understand that maybe Israel should not be their homeland, but it exists as such, and despite the desire of some Palestinians, it is unlikely that Israel is going to cease to exist anytime soon. If the Christian west is so intolerable to them, they always have Israel, and alternatively they have the Jewish Autonomous Oblast. The Autonomous Oblast is a better homeland for the Ashkenazi Jews, as it was the ancient Khazars who came to adopt the Jewish religion and formed part of the ethnic basis for the Ashkenazi Jews. But to conclude, there is a battle for the soul of the Jews raging on today between the secularists, the Zionists, and the Orthodox Jews. I cannot resolve the tensions that persist amongst the Jewish people and, as we see from the Old Testament and to this day, neither can they. Of course, the answer is for them to accept Christ, but given their steadfast refusal to do that it is unlikely they will be convinced to do so in this current era. I am content to leave them to their own devices and wait for them to be willing to accept Christ, and in the meantime demonstrate how their influence on Christian society is detrimental and how their moral dictates and demands should be ignored.
